The New Normal
Social Repercussions of COVID19
Wearing facemasks in shops and public transport, keeping a 1.5 metre distance to the people around us, avoiding handshakes and hugs…there are a lot of things that have become normal over the course of the past months. Circumstances I could have never anticipated.
With all of these new measures that have been taken there is a looming question above our heads. When will all of this be over?
“Who says that it’s ever going to stop?”, a friend of mine asked after we had discussed how anxious and worried people had become, to the point at which they avoided meeting up altogether.
I’m not saying that coronavirus is a hoax.
I understand that governments have undertaken these measures in order to slow down the spread of the virus and keep people safe. Avoiding or even closing down crowded venues such as bars and restaurants and cancelling events such as concerts and graduation ceremonies have been crucial steps for the safety of the entire population.
However, what politicians didn’t keep in mind is that humans are not made to live in isolation. We are meant to live a life in union and community.
In theory, I can still meet up with people but practically that’s a whole different story. I don’t socialise as often as I used…
